We make layered, personalized spaces that reflect the ethos and personality of their inhabitants, whether that be for a private residence or a hospitality experience. We believe every space should be instilled with a sense of soul and story, incorporating objects picked up from our extensive travels as well as our love for handmade and vintage items.

Our Story

KO Studios was established by Kristine Overacre in 2020 after her natural eye for design and aesthetics merged with her passion to help those around her cultivate spaces that feel as good as they look. Previously, Kristine was the co-founder and creative director of playground agency (est. 2012), a boutique design firm specializing in commercial interiors, in particular hotels, restaurants and hospitality project across the West Coast. Her love for creating evocative, award-winning commercial spaces naturally evolved as her commercial clients began to request her services on their own homes.

As these projects became the majority of her business, Kristine set out on her own to open KO Studios. In the years since, Kristine has expanded her team and reach with clientele throughout the United States and the Caribbean, while continuing to consult on commercial interiors and property development, especially community driven projects and public/private partnerships. KO Studios specializes in a variety of projects including ground up construction, full scale renovations and bespoke residential design, as well as commercial design for hotels, bars, restaurants and multi-family properties.

I love creating spaces that evoke a sense of joy. As both a homebody and a frequent traveler I deeply understand the impact that a space can have on your mood. Whether it’s a home that truly welcomes you in, a hotel that is thoughtfully appointed for your comfort or a restaurant bar that invites conversation, it’s readily evident that spaces play an important role in shaping the quality of our day-to-day lives. I think Charles Eames said it best, “*The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host, anticipating the needs of his guests.”* One of the great pleasures in my work is creating spaces that are custom tailored for their inhabitants, building a beautiful backdrop for their lives that encourages relaxation, conviviality and the simple pleasure of feeling at home.

Kristine started KO Studios with a desire to help people create a beautiful home to serve as the backdrop for a well-lived life. From drafting initial sketches to construction management, her goal is to create a joyful design process that is fun, creative and exciting. She works collaboratively with clients throughout the design process to truly understand their vision and goals for a space, with each project custom tailored to their requirements. One thing that sets Kristine apart as a designer is her adaptable approach to design and an appreciation for many design styles—her goal is to create a cohesive, beautiful space that is uniquely suited to the client’s lifestyle and taste.

Our ethos is simple: we believe in the power of doing all things with love. It makes food taste better, design flows more seamlessly, even our spreadsheets tend to benefit from this practice! We’re committed to creating a joyful design experience with you and your project team.
